Compass Counseling Wausau is an outpatient mental health clinic dedicated to providing quality, caring, and confidential services to families, children, adults, and couples. We offer assessments and treatment, including court ordered, for a wide range of issues and concerns.

Compass Counseling Wausau is an outpatient mental health clinic dedicated to providing quality, caring, and confidential services to families, children, adults, and couples. We offer assessments and treatment, including court-ordered, for a wide range of issues and concerns.

Our therapists are also able to work with family doctors, psychiatrists, case managers, and any other support people our clients might have to ensure continuity of care and the best possible outcomes.

Appointments

Compass Counseling is open for counseling services in Weston and Wausau, Wisconsin. We are open for appointments Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. 

The receptionist will send you paperwork through your online client portal. We will schedule an appointment for you once the paperwork is completed. Please be sure to take a picture of your insurance card in your portal as part of initial paperwork completion.

Your therapist will greet you and escort you to a comfortable home-like office and answer any questions you may have about the paperwork you completed. An assessment will then be completed to determine the appropriate course of treatment. This assessment will include detailed information about what brings you to therapy, symptoms, and personal history. This will allow your therapist to custom design your treatment. Your therapist will give you an opinion for treatment and schedule a return appointment as needed.

Our receptionist is available to schedule appointments and answer any questions you might have regarding appointments.

Our Staff

At Compass Counseling our therapists are Masters or PhD level professionals. Each counselor has expertise and experience in specific areas so we can offer you wide variety of counseling services. Alyssa Kress LCSW

Alyssa holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and has over 5 years working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system with substance use disorders. Alyssa also holds a substance abuse certification, and has experience in facilitating AODA and trauma focused groups. Alyssa enjoys working with families, and individuals of all ages.

Dr. Cameron earned Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelors degree in Psychology from UW-Milwaukee. He has worked as a psychology instructor and addictions researcher but his primary focus is conducting therapy with individuals and families.

Blake has a Master's Degree from Concordia University of Wisconsin in counseling. He has served as a foster parent for eight years and has four years of experience as a therapist in the residential setting. Blake enjoys working with a wide variety of people. He believes we all have the power to make changes in our lives if we can understand the influences on how we make choices.

Carmen holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Vermont University and is dually licensed in both Substance Abuse and Clinical Mental Health Counseling.   She completed her internships at Compass Counseling and at ACS Clinical Services.  She has experience working with anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and addictions.  Carmen also has experience working in Treatment Court Programs with adults dealing with substance abuse and legal issues.  Carmen uses a strengths-based, person-centered approach to work with adolescents and adults in developing healthy coping skills toward mental wellness.

Hazel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She then went on to obtain her Master’s degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. Hazel’s main area of practice is with children, specifically addressing childhood trauma. She has experience and knowledge navigating the child welfare system, working with both biological and foster parents. Hazel also has experience with faith-based counseling for clients that wish to incorporate their beliefs into their treatment services.

Liz has a wide range of education and clinical experience. Liz received her Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Lakeland College and her undergraduate degree from the University of MN. She has over 11 years working in mental health in the areas of Residential Treatment, Outpatient Mental Health, College Counseling and Employee Assistance Programs. Liz uses a holistic, strength-based approach to therapy when working with all ages and areas of concern. She is trained in EMDR which is used to help eleviate symptoms of trauma. She also uses other treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and mindfullness.

Rick earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University with specialized training in Substance Abuse and Addictions, holding licenses in Wisconsin and Illinois.  Before becoming a clinical therapist, he spent 34 years as a Trial Attorney specializing in complex civil litigation.  Rick has also worked as a Guardian ad Litem on court-related matters involving a broad range of family and mental health challenges.  Rick takes a strengths-based approach to therapy with adults, couples and families, integrating mindfulness practices with the following treatment models: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Narrative Therapy; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Ted graduated with his MSW, from the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay and is currently obtaining his hours to receive his LCSW. Ted earned his Bachelor’s degree in social work, from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. His approach is relational focused and seeks to utilize the client’s strengths and resiliencies to build a positive therapeutic relationship. Ted has worked with teens, adults, and families to address stress, anxiety, life transitions, grief, attachment, parenting, and depression. Ted typically works with individuals aged 15 and older.

Tracy holds a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from UW-Stout and a Bachelors Degree in Education. She has worked as a teacher, inpatient social worker, and in corrections in the past. She works with adolescents and adults.

Billing/Insurance

Compass Counseling accepts most insurance including BadgerCare. As a courtesy to our clients, we will bill your insurance directly. Please contact your insurance company to verify your benefits and to learn more about your deductible and or copays.

We also accept self-payment for those clients who do not have insurance and will work with you to set up payment plans for self-payment and co-pays.
